Using a condenser mic with Smule?

Recommended Posts

I’m sure this question has been asked, but I’m looking for ways to connect my condenser mic with Smule. I know about the iRig, I have an iPhone with lightening connector. I don’t know which one to look into and also what else I would need for my set up

Our usual recommendation is the iRig Pro I/O. It connects directly to the lightning port and so you don’t need anything else.

There are some other ways around. You can set a more professional studio if you want .

Here are the things you will need

1- Apple Camera Connection kit with a lightening socket which will keep your phone charging during your performance. This will be the connection unit for your iphone or ipad to your external sound card .

https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Lightning-USB3-Camera-Adapter/dp/B01F7KJDIM/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2L6JV77WAA13T&dchild=1&keywords=apple+camera+connection+kit&qid=1597345342&sprefix=apple+camera+%2Caps%2C270&sr=8-3

2- External Sound Card : This could be something like  Focusrite 2i2 ( https://www.amazon.com/Focusrite-Scarlett-Audio-Interface-Tools/dp/B07QR73T66/ref=sr_1_2?crid=LIJ1D5SCYHCW&dchild=1&keywords=focusrite+scarlett+2i2+3rd+gen&qid=1597345574&sprefix=focusr%2Caps%2C282&sr=8-2 ) or similar. Depends on your budget.

3- I have tried many pro quality head sets without good results. Sounds so good when you sing but sounds awful if you listen without the head set. Over the head ear phones are not good for the Smule . I recommend in ear earbuds like :

https://www.amazon.com/Shure-SE215-CL-Isolating-Earphones-MicroDriver/dp/B004PO10E2/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1QSKVDSLFYT9H&dchild=1&keywords=shure+se215&qid=1597345768&sprefix=shure+se%2Caps%2C517&sr=8-2

You will notice the clear and more accurate pitch when you sing.

I again do not recommend Condenser mics since your voice becomes highly airy. Dynamic mics like Shure SM58 or similar will make your recordings much better than the Condenser mic.

Remind you that any sound card including Irig MUST have a +48V phantom power to make the condenser mic work.

Make sure to get the power adapter if you decide to go with the Irig external sound card for the condenser microphone to work.

I hope this helps.
