The RØDE M2 is a rugged live-performance condenser microphone designed to provide a full frequency response and premium performance on stage. Featuring a tailored-for-stage super-cardioid polar pattern and an internally shock mounted 1/2" condenser capsule, the M2 provides a high quality alternative to dynamic microphones for live performance.

While I mostly used the Apple EarBuds on Smule, I use the Røde M2 (connected through an iRig PRE or iRig Pro I/O) for songs that have quiet parts or need more subtlety or volume differences. The mic is almost noise free in comparison to the Apple EarBuds, has a rather warm sound (compared to other condensers) and offers more clarity for the upper frequencies. In the lower frequencies the Røde does sound weaker than the Apple EarBuds, so it’s not always the best choice for me.

Also, while it is a hand-held mic by design, it better use a stand (with pop filter) while recording on Smule. It will pick up the slightest movements of my hand or even the cable, which can ruin a take.

Here is an example, where I use the mic.
