I am getting notifications that I have new followers, but my number of followers hasn’t changed. I’ll check to see if the name of the person who recently started following my is on my follower list and it’s not there. I have several like that. It’s possible that they followed and then unfollowed quickly, but I don’t know why. Or why it would keep happening. I’ve had the same followers for a long time.
