Obviously the biggest takeaway is here: "For VIP users, whenever someone views your profile, you’ll be able to see who they are, whether they follow you, and if you follow them."

Can anyone confirm how this "following" info appears? Hopefully it's something cool-looking, like how this info appears on Duets.fm.

This required an update, but now I see it. I don’t want to share a screenshot because I don’t want to expose my profile viewers. Most are my followers, which is nice. A few random peeps. And a few people who looked at my page because they don’t like me lol.

It is found under your Profile Stats➡️Profile Views. It tells the number of users who have viewed your profile, lists them with the number of hours/days since they viewed, with buttons to “follow” and “follow back” or shows “following✔️” if you’re already following them. You can choose to view the Last 7 days, Last 30 days, or Last 90 days.

There’s a little “i” in the corner for info, and it said something about private mode, so I’m gonna go switch that on now so that I can continue to be nosy lol

Once you're in private mode, you can't actually continue viewing your stats. You'll be able to see the number of views, but not actually the users' names.

PLUS, if you change your privacy, I think you need to wait 48 hours before switching it again. Or something.

On linkedin, more than 90% turn on the private mode.  But on Smule, people might use this feature. I am thinking that people who join your songs or thinking about joining (followers or not) would see your profile.

Hmm, it sounds like the Following info isn't anywhere close to as good as what Duets.fm is offering. Plus if you're in Private mode (a friend's screenshot below), you can't access that info from there anyway.

True, you can’t toggle back for 48 hours after switching it to private mode.

Now I know how the private mode affects what I can see on my page. But if I’m in private mode, do I show up in the profile viewers listing of someone who is not in private mode? Or do I still need to make sure that I never view anyone’s page, lest I be found out?

The blog says "When you toggle on the private option, your username and profile picture will not be displayed on others’ Who’s Seen My Profile page; only the number of views remains."

I would take that with a grain of salt, given how problematic some of Smule's features are, especially right out of the gate. Haha.

Us android users are still in the dark, our only way of knowing who is stalking our page is if they tell us, hey i miss ya so been stalking ya lol!

I still need to test this theory a bit more, but I'm thinking "Profile Views" actually tracks when people view any recording you're in, and not just deliberate views to one's profile page. A friend of mine yesterday sent me a screenshot which showed I had recently viewed her profile page, but I actually hadn't. If anything, I may have viewed one of her duets, but I certainly hadn't gone to her profile page.

Not like ANY of this matters, but there is a clear distinction between viewing random duets and intentionally going to someone's profile page to view their stuff. And if this isn't working as Smule says it's supposed to, it's going to cause a lot of confusion within the community.

That said, I'm not updating my app for this feature, so I guess I'm stuck in Public mode. Time to go stalk as many of y'all as possible. Hahaha.

Thank you for sharing the deets right away @DuetWithAlli! It was helpful. My friend and I tested out the private mode. First I looked at their page a bunch of times and they saw only the most recent view (wow like down to the minute!) Then they toggled to private and viewed my profile and as I checked, their view was “private” meaning I couldn’t tell who it was. So it would seem as though you could view anonymously in private mode (but as wishchip pointed out “take with  a grain of salt given how problematic…” yeah don’t know if I trust smule anymore).

I’d be so pissed if I were an android user. Smule should’ve waited until it was available to all users at the same time. Or should’ve defaulted to private mode & given option to choose public. Seems a violation of privacy to me to make your viewing behavior for the last 90 days public?!! With no warning. No beta testing. Sneaky.

Why this? And why now? Is it part of the same strategy to attract TikTok users? (Is this kind of feature available on TikTok or other social media?) Rather than bringing the community closer wouldn’t it just make people not want to look at other’s profiles at all? Also why did it roll out so quietly & sneakily or is Smule waiting till android users have it to make the big announcement? I wouldn’t have known ANYTHING about this except for this forum. Thank you forum!

Yes, I agree! It’s totally unfair to allow iOS users to see who has been viewing their profiles, while this feature is not available to Android users. Smule definitely should have waited until they had the capability to make it available to all. Are Android users at least able to switch their profile views to Private? I hope so.

A friend was trying this out last night. So if someone has visited your profile multiple times in the last 90 days, it'll only show the most recent visit ("Viewed 18h ago"). So if anyone has a stalker, it won't show multiple visits from the same person (Wishchip "Viewed just now" and Wishchip "Viewed 10m ago" and Wishchip "Viewed 1h ago"). So stalkers can breathe a sigh of relief. Haha.

But here's the interesting part. Let's say I was in Private mode and viewed SingingFool's profile. It would show up for SingingFool as "Someone in Private Mode just visited you" (or something to that effect). Now let's say 2 months later I change my privacy and go into Public mode. My visit from 2 months ago to SingingFool's profile while I was in private mode is now public and SingingFool could see this.

So if anyone is hoping to switch back and forth between Private and Public, you might want to do this 90 days apart. :D

Is the default setting public mode ? Meaning, those who choose not to update their app (including current Android users) when they visit someone's profile, they show up in their Profile Viewed page, and there is no way to prevent this ? If yes then I agree this will only make people avoid seeing other's profile pages and reduce community bonding rather than enhance it !

Yes the default is public mode. @SingingFool makes a really good point that from a privacy standpoint, it's kind of a shitty move on Smule's part to suddenly reveal everyone's profile history without any warning.

I was wondering the same thing - if merely listening to a duet counts as a profile view? There were some random people (not following me) show up as profile viewers and I noticed they had liked a duet I had with someone else.

I have to confess it is fascinating to see, especially the random people because who are you, random people?! Ok and honestly it is sort of flattering. 😳😆 On the flip side, I was a little disappointed to see that my secret smule crush has not even viewed my profile in the last 90 days. “Don’t you care about me at all?” 😢😆

So I admit I’m sort of a hypocrite to outcry at the violation of my privacy while simultaneously being fascinated to see who has paid me any crumb of attention.

As of now my new android update still dont include the profile view option. Its unfortunate that smule always tests on ios first before releasing to android. While the ios users are able to see who is stalking or interested in them for whatever reason, us android users are still being stalked by ex girlfriends and anyone else curious about our pages. And by the time they decide to roll it out on android, ios users will have all been stalking us for weeks and then set to private, long before android even has it as an option to see who viewed us. Not really fair when we all pay for our own vip membership,  well sometimes ill buy a gift vip for someone i care about. Smule was so simple when i started on the app 7 years ago. Now it dont even feel like an app for singing anymore. It seems more like every other social media outlet, where its about socializing more than singing. And im one of the guys i just want to sing, i dont want to chat, venting on here is about the most chatting i will ever do. As i hate typing lmao! Its not that i dont want to chat, its that i dont want to type lmao!

I try to keep things light, but seriously I do wonder about the legality of it?

It sucks that Android users always get updates later. I’d be livid in this particular situation. I wonder if Android has at least the ability to go into  settings and toggle to Private Mode (as @DuetWithAlli was also wondering)? Absolutely right that it’s unfair you pay the same $ VIP but do not have the same privileges.

No the option to be private or public is still unavailable on android. My phone just recieved the new update, it was only bug fixes. Thank you for the helpful input into this new smule feature. Bound to be loads of complaints from android and ios users alike as the whole big brother invasion of privacy feelings most of us have. Whats next? They should link all your accounts into one, that would be something appropriate, especially when you block someone and they have 8 accounts and can stalk you whenever they feel like, not that it would bother me, i never blocked my ex , i left her unblocked because i actually want her to stalk my page. I will open dozens of songs hoping she still cares enough to sing with me, and after a few days she dont join, i get all butt hurt lol and close my invites. My whole page is already public, i dont have 1 single private song locked on my page. And i gave my ex my email and my password and havent changed it. So stalk away baby lol The rest of the world i could care less what they think or who looks at my page. So honestly i dont care if they ever release it on android.

I have sent feedback on this feature to Smule Support:

Dear Smule Support Agent, I’m sorry to complain to you because you are not the one in charge. Please pass this feedback on to the appropriate person/persons.

I do not like the new Profile Views feature. While I’m glad to be able to switch my profile views to Private Mode as an iOS user, I believe it is inherently unfair to allow iOS users to see which Android users have viewed our profiles, while the same courtesy has not been extended to Android users. To be fair, Smule should remove this feature until it can be rolled out to users on both platforms. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Oh @SingingFool 🤗 I think many of us could have written this post 😂 well, I could have, anyway. Props for being honest.

The main reason it’s an issue for me is that Smule is hyper competitive, and I don’t want other women to know that I look at their pages to compare the number of followers and joins they have on their songs, and have a good cry over it lol 😂

Its definitely competitive especially when you only love and want one person on the app, your smule crush, and you look at their page and realize you are just one of dozens and dozens of people that are showing interest in the same person. As far as any other competition on there, its like women try to outhot each other chasing after the same dozen dudes. Im glad im not involved in all that competitive shit. I gave my heart away a long time ago, the rest cant compete for nothing, its funny you know my ex never even asked me why i sing with dolled up women, but only date plain jane tomboys. Well i sing with the barbies because im not interested in barbies. If i start singing all the time with some chick with barely any makeup on, singing in her pajamas, or overhauls while shes out gardening, or breaking a sweat playing basketball with me. Yeah then my ex should realize yep he moved on hes singing with some hot girl next door that wants to bait her own hook and go fishing. Lol ! 😁
