What is the number one main way to increase joins?

Send your invites directly to your followers inboxes, and/or send them to every singer who has the same song open. I have random people do that to me, and they’ll have 100 plus joins on their songs.

Like @DuetWithAlli said, send it to the inbox of everyone who has sang that song before. I know someone who did this and got a lot of joins and followers.

But be careful what you wish for 😃

It takes a lot of time and effort to listen to a hundred joins and respond to each one.

Yes, I totally agree … being popular is not fun. I’d prefer 10 joins from my followers over 100 joins from randos any day. Also, some people (me … lol) are annoyed by anyone fishing for followers. At best, I’ll ignore, and at worst, I’ll block them. It does seem to work well on less seasoned Smule users, though.

A good way to increase followers, if thats your goal, is to open 2 part duets that are popular and on the recommended list, i usually sing the whole song when i open invites, so i dont get as many joins as people who only sing half the song. Also you can look at the trending now list, and open duets that are trending. I dont do much mass invites, i notice my followers just give a blind like and not join. So i dont bother. Other ways is to add hastags to your open, to make it get noticed.

That’s a complicated topic! There are so many variables as to why someone will join an OC. Like I sang a song a couple years ago that got low joins  but when sang it again recently it got double digit joins (that’s a lot for me). Or conversely, I reactivated a song that got a lot of joins a couple years ago and then it only got 1 join now. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why 🤔. There’s a collective mood of people? Why then but not now & vice versa?

Another thing I notice that people who graciously follow everyone who follows them tend to have  decent amount of joins on their OCs. I think people don’t like to join the singers who have like 2,000 followers and only follow 20 people, no matter how great a singer they are. People want to be followed back! There aren’t any hard stats on this 😆 just my random observations.

Personally, if I’m looking to join a song that has a lot of OC invites and it’s a bunch of people I don’t follow, to decide which one, I’ll listen first to see if they’re at least singing on key, or sometimes compare who sings it best. Then I’ll check out their profile to see if they seem nice (or at least I used to check before this latest exposing profile viewing thing) and see if they actually listen & respond to joins because it’s something I appreciate when I take the time to sing with someone.

All things considered, there's so much that’s out of your control because people are busy and don’t always have time to join you even if they might have if it were another week. Or there might be too many competing OCs for that particular popular song. Or they might not be in the mood that day. So I guess all you can do is try your best for the things you have control over. Sing the songs you care about to want to keep improving at for your own satisfaction and find the people that are into the music you like. Be nice, listen & comment and follow back. That’s the best 2 cents I have to get some enjoyment out of smule. 😉

Oh I just thought of another 2 cents to add (so 4 cents total! 😆) The earlier reply was an idealist’s answer. But from a strategic standpoint…when I first started on smule (like 10 years ago) I was so nervous and insecure about singing certain songs that I loved. I didn’t think I was good enough for certain songs so I opened OCs with just an instrumental track like a free solo for them. Those were popular and I actually got followers by doing that, both non-VIP and VIP, surprisingly. And eventually, some of them followers started joining me on OCs where I actually sang. 😆 It’s kinda sad that the OCs that I didn’t sing on were actually MORE popular than the ones where I sing. But well it was a start! And I still sing with some of those peeps who first joined and followed me on my “Free Solo for You!” OCs 10 years ago.

Trust me, it doesn’t work at all. The main reason people will join you is your good voice; it’s not about how many invites you’ve sent or who you’ve sent them to. I have almost 200k followers on Smule, and whenever I sing a song, it’s like opening my own personal concert—lots of people come to join me instantly. The key is the voice.😁

200K followers 🤯 So, may be you can tell others how to increase followers, assuming that one's voice is good and he/she is a good singer.

I do know that more followers produce more joins.

The majority of singers on smule with massive amounts of followers are song uploaders, and are not great singers. Some of the best singers on smule dont have big followings. People with 200k following spent hours and hours uploading songs. And people hit the follow button after they join your upload, thats how they gained a following, same as if someone sings like a bag of cats in heat, but opens solo songs for basic accounts to sing to gain a following. As far as increasing joins, the more followers the more joins, but there are loads of ways to increase joins. And its not always that someone has such an amazing voice they get loads of joins. Half the people on smule cant carry a tune in a bucket and get loads of joins. Sometimes just being a nice and kind person to people who cant sing will get you joins. I would rather sing with someone kind that cant sing, than to sing with some arrogant person thinks they are so great and looks down on others. Kindness, always thanking my followers, always actually listening to their joins, and comment and gift every person that took their time to join my song. Kindness is free.....

Smule has created video tutorials on the subject of uploading songs, also how to gain a following and how to increase joins. Smule has several video tutorials that would not only answer your question better than i. But also show you step by step.

Nope, having a good voice is just not reason enough to get more joins. I see many singers who have golden voice (newer ones in the app I guess) but rather low joins and followers. Also for some of my OCs (which were obscure songs or new uploads) I had sent invites to past singers of those songs, and yes those OCs did get a lot of joins compared to my regular OCs...

Thisss .. could not agree more. I treasure those singers who take the effort to listen and comment on ALL their joins, even when they get double-digit joins and are busy, like the rest of us.

But I am not sure if uploads are the reason for more followers. Have been in smule 2 years and never followed any person who uploaded a track I just sung. To me its the singer, and not the uploader who has the mettle to get a follow (even though I myself have uploaded a bunch of songs, and have got almost no followers from there)
