Thanks. I decided to bag it.  The original pre offers plenty of quality above and beyond an iphone earbud.  I'm satisfied with that.

I had same problem

Tenoreprimo, feel free to unsubscribe from this discussion by using the follow button on the topic page.

I’m sure this discussion will still continue, as there are new members joining as well and I believe Chris_tianOff was addressing the new member Shri who just joined the discussion.

I also ordered an iRig PRO I/O now as well and will post my findings soon.

Okay, I got my iRig PRO I/O. Really nice quality. 😃

I get the sound routed through GarageBand to Smule (on an iPhone 6s) by selecting the “background use” option as described by Christian. Fiddling with the various gain settings is tricky. I have to play around with that some more. But I definitely can get enough gain with good sound through.

One remaining problem is that the live monitoring only gives me the GarageBand settings, not the Smule effects.  I only hear the Smule effects after recording on the playback screen. Not sure if that can be resolved or if it’s just the way it is.

I tried to resolve it, too but could not resolve it. On the other hand, you have so many effects with GB that you don't really need the Smule effects anymore??

Hi! Had the same issues with my iphone x and irig pro. I followed the  steps Chris said and it works.

Now, there's still an issue as smule thinks there's no headset, I can't record group songs...

Anyway, thanks for the very helpful tip!

I ended up getting the iRig Pre, and am using an Android device, rather than an iPhone, or iPad (I have an iPad, but then I'd have to pay for plan more than once for having a different OS). Unfortunately,  I'm not able to get the mic to work on the iRig Pre, and I don't have the option to run Garage Band, nor the Mic Room apps on my Android device.  Ideally, Sing! by Smule would allow users to adjust their mic settings or something, to do mic checks prior to joining songs.

You got an iRig Pre, iRig Pre HD or iRig Pro i/O (which this topic is about)?

The iRig Pre should work like any headset. I can’t think of a reason Smule would not pick up the sound.

Edit: I just tested it with an Android phone I have laying around and never use. The iRig Pre works with Smule. It’s just tricky to set up on Android since there is no monitoring.

And with Android the delay is often so big that you can't handle it any more. So the recording sounds awful because it's totally out of timing. But sometimes it works... It's really strange....

I am using iPhone 7 Plus, I did not like Android based phone, I believe new update on Android can correct the delay and let you adjust the timing/ delay . Have you tried it!

Good news: The Sing version 6.4.9 now supports digital connections of third-party hardware and this includes the iRig PRO I/O. It is now directly supported for recording and monitoring. 🙌

I have received the following recommendations from Sennheisser Customer Support member

I can recommend the excellent MK 4 for use as a microphone.

https://en-au.sennheiser.com/usb-studio-condenser-microphone-recording-mk-4-digital

And for monitors, the HD630VB headphones deliver amazing performance.

https://en-au.sennheiser.com/high-quality-stereo-headphones-around-ear-hd-630vb

This set up can be moved around and requires no additional equipment to connect to your Android device.

Open Type this will cost around $1600 and seems a tad too expensive for Kareoke singing so need your guidance

I did use two of this units of the IK Multimedia. None worked for me well and ended up returning back of these two.Focustite Scarlet 2i2 and Focusrite Clarett Pre USB . Then I  tried : Apogee Duet , Steinberg UR22MKII 2-Channel USB ,Audient ID 22 . They all are very reputable audio interfaces but I decided to go with the Focusrite Clarett Pre USB which I am happy with it as of now.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0794PMMNB/ref=sr_ob_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1539771199&sr=8-4.

I connect this to my ipad via this https://www.amazon.com/Apple-MK0W2AM-Lightning-Camera-Adapter/dp/B01F7KJDIM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1539771314&sr=8-3&keywords=apple+lightning+to+camera+usb+adapter . You do not to start Garage Band beforehand anymore. Camera adapter charges the ipad at the same time which also has a lightning slot . I also use Rode NT 1 A as microphone. As you already may have known that you need phantom power for the condenser microphone.

I would like to be able to use several effects of Garage Band that I use in my HomeStudio in which an audio interface is the "engine" Could I send the micro processed signal to Smule through another lightning type device? By the analog input it does not give good results

Open Type, My Brand new iPad does not have Garage Band. Do I have to down load it?

Can you please explain how connecting interface with Garage band helps Smule recordings please.

A bit confused here.

I am considering a Tascam IXZ as an interface as it comes recommended by two buddies who use ipads and iPhones for Smule singing.

Cheers

Garageband is not needed anymore. The Smule app now works directly with digital interfaces/microphones connected through the lightning port.

My New i Pad does not have a lightning port. Remember every one suggested I get an i Pad with a 3.5mm jack to plug in a 3.5mm pin

If you have an 3.5mm jack, my statement is also true. Garageband was never needed for an analog audio connection.

I am not sure what kind of iPad you have, that has no lightning port. That’s a standard feature for years. It’s how you charge it.

I see.

When I talked about the lightning port in the past, I was referring to its digital audio connection vs. the analog audio jack. So with a USB-C connection, things that were said about the lightning connection should be true as well—at least in regards to the device/app processing of the audio.
