bluetooth headset, seems to ignore the mic

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've got this bluetooth earbuds, which are mostly like the cable ones, but without cable :)

I realized that smule seems to ignore the headset mic. I was getting a very low signal when playing back a preview without effects (BTW, even the non-vip effects are awesome, they were increasing my signal a lot without adding that much noise).

I'm not sure if this has been happening from the beginning, and I just realized now.

Do you know if I can do something to enable bluetooth mic on android? Is it a smule thing? How can I test?

(maybe a sound test under config would be a good feature, I'm gonna sugest)

I’ve never heard of anyone who got bluetooth mics to work with the Sing! app yet. The app doesn’t seem to support that input. But it can come with any update. It’s just a software thing. Nothing would stop them to support this input I think.

it does dude put a spiter on your device hook up one end to your surround system if the sound doesnt come from all directions than latency is higher but you can place speakers where you want to get the desired effect  the other end you'll need to either use a {V. Processor} or any preamp including another device CPU work the best for this than the last step is to plug your head phones into that device configure input to output on the device untill the head set is playing sound from the other device your singing on  i do it all the time or you could just cut out the headset and extra device by singing with a aux input through a surround system sing with low volume will give you none to little feedback

you will greatly expand intent through the use of filters make sure the room has no porcelain, tile, lots of windows{ one window is fine draw a curtain}  and that the speakers are set at {16 bit 4800 hrts CD} in volume settings

thanks man, but I was just wondering why smule didn't pick the bluetooth mic bundled with my headset. I can live with phone built-in mic, or just plug some cable earbuds with mic. I'm not sure which one of that two options would be better, probably both suck for someone talking about preamp ;)

Self Destructive (SD)

If you're planning to use earbuds with the built in mic I would recommend another option that I've been using for over 2 years now. I've bought and used a wide variety of headphones and mics. What I've found to be the best fit for me is Turtle Beach gamer headphones. Walmart has a selection of about 10 different pair ranging from $30 up to $200. I kept it simple by buying the PlayStation 3 compatible Turtle Beach X90's with the removable mic. The mic picks up all the intricacies of your vocal sound without picking up all the background noise. The mic is flexible so you can position it properly and it has a foam cover to clean up the sound as you deliver your vocals (rapping or singing). They're very durable as well and the best part is they're only $39. I've broke 2 pair of Monster (Beats and Ncredible) headphones in half the the time that I've been able to keep my Turtle Beach in tact. Trust me you'll love the overall vocal quality. I've been through more than a dozen different pair of headphones and I've been super satisfied with these.

Sorry about the long ass essay... I mean comment ? I have a habit of getting carried and rambling on about every minor detail. But I hope my message is helpful to you and whom ever happens to come across this reply.

thanks to you all for the reply,

I've got to know via support that getting the signal through bt would not be a good idea, because it would increase the lag too much (bear in mind that sending audio to the earbuds already gives a little lag. Bringing it back would add too much). So now I'm carrying some old cable earbuds with mic in case I want to smule.

About the singing gear, thanks for the advise, but I'm not that much into it. I've got a pretty good condenser mic for recording with a computer DAW at home, wich I would use if I had time for it, but working and parenting takes it all. The gear I have in most dire need of improving is inside my throat :)

Smule as I use it is just for quickie fun whenever I have some spare minutes.

No, thanks, I'm not an apple guy.

Smule should think about adapting to wireless headphones, as I've seen specs of new smartphones ditching the 3,5mm jack . If the trend goes on, they will have to figure it out.

I think the problem with bluetooth headsets is the slight but unavoidable lag caused by the slow bluetooth connection. It doesn’t matter if you just listen to music or just make a phone call, but for listening and singing at the same time the slightest delay creates a big mess. So it’s not supported at all.

That being said, I wish Smule would communicate these things more clearly, e.g. by making a list of compatible and non-compatible devices. The millions of Smule users must have spend tons of money on gear that turned out to be incompatible.

Yeah, that's probably the problem, but they may handle it just the same way they handle the "normal" lag.

Sometimes I use my bt headphones instead of my wired headphones (bt for listening, phone built-in mic for recording), as I don't hear much difference in record quality between my wired headphones mic and the phone built-in mic. That times I usually have to adjust the smule sync to nearly -500ms.

If developers enable bt mic, they will just have to increase the -500ms limit (for example to -1 second), or add a previous negative offset when they detect that the user is using bt.

The delay would create an unbearable mess only if we were hearing loopback sound, but that loopback is disabled (at least in android version it is), so this is not an issue.

I'm not sure if I explained myself here.

If they either allow bluetooth headsets (by dealing with the lag) or allow live monitoring on Android too, they should add the latter. 😜

I'm having problems with numerous Bluetooth headphones not keeping sync with the song! I play it back and singing is off beat, and even adjusting later doesn't help. Anyone have a clue about why that is? Thanks in advance.

Can you be more specific? On iphones you can select plus and minus to move it 5ms, but you can also drag that slider manually with your finger to something that is in between multiples of 5.

So if 30 is too fast, 35 is too slow, choose 32 or 33.

Other than that I cant see how it would be possible for the music itself to be out of time.

I have not seen any updates. It seems to be really common with Smule. We hear other people say it works fine in other apps. I feel its just going to take some more time.

I have this problem as well with my own. I end up having to record apart of a song without a voice, then quit, and go back in. I don't like it.

Yes that is the reason I’ve been told that no Bluetooth is supported. The reason for the lag as described sounds like the problem I had. It’s because it is Android. Most of the time when I tried to get help, I got b.s. instead. There is no way to help that lag until you ditch Android. I didn’t want to pay money for iPhone since I had a new phone but a friend of my son gave me his iPhone XR. He shattered the screen and bought another but it worked fine for videos, singing, WiFi. I just carry two phones instead of one but it is worth it if you love to smule!! Never, ever again any problem with sync/lag and no more having to do a whole song over on audio when I screw up at the end because I could just fix the section I messed up. (The latter is just another reason to convince me not to renew my Android if I wanted to keep smule).
Someone also mentioned that they can’t hear their voice while singing. Just wondering if tried adjusting the Vocal Volume. It can be turned up after start recording but not before and it’s not same as setting you adjust after you sing, before you hit continue to save. It’s at bottom of lyrics. I found it accidentally and now I know I can’t sing without it. Using over ear wired headphones if that makes difference.
Hope this helps.
It took over a year of being frustrated to realize no matter what they told me, I knew it was an Android issue. Idk why they won’t tell people. I’ve seen complaints from way before I joined. Occasionally I’d get someone who would tell me that Smule was originally made for iOS and things would get fixed for iOS but apparently it’s easiest for Smule techs To work with iPhone (? Idk coding, language? ), not Android, but they continue to advertise being an app for either.
