Horrible original recording of mine

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I have started a group collab and have 5 invitees singing on it so far. The trouble is that my original effort has a few bum notes and I jump in far too early on a particular part of the song; it has ruined it.

Is there anything I can do without everyone doing it again? I can join my own song but does that add to the existing song or replace it?

Please help.

Me personally.   I would download the song and the instrumental.  Put them both in my daw.  Cut myself out and replace it with the instrumental part of the original and upload it re-record jr and have everyone else do a quick silent join. For however many seconds it takes to save just get their name on it. And in their channel.

To make it worse, someone recorded their bit twice, but their first version was just them grappling with their microphone so over the top we had loads of interference which was the over-riding sound during the first 24 seconds of the song. However, I did as you said. I pre-recorded my first bit and got the other person to re-record their bit during the first 24 seconds and then cut and spliced on Adobe Premier Pro and *just* got away with it. I won't be bothering with Smule again until you can have more control as the group collab leader or people on Android can delete their bits. There are people on it twice, someone on it sideways, people jumping in early. It isn't good enough yet.

I disagree. Check out our Stage section and click “Group song” there:

Groups record professional songs all the time—sometimes with 50 to 100 layers.

If you start a public group OC that everyone can join, then it’s more for the fun of it. If you want to do it more professionally, then it needs some planning and private invites to people who know what they are doing. I doubt Smule will ever provide mixing capabilities like in a record studio setting. That’s just not the goal of the app.
